About me

My name is Cheryl Marks, and I practice in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have over 20 years of experience helping people shape their stories. I have a Master of Science degree in Psychology, and I’ve worked with a chronic pain rehabilitation program, with youth in residential care, with people coping with medical conditions and, for 13 years, as a School Psychologist. I work with people across the lifespan, from school-age children to senior adults.

I believe in people. I believe that they are resilient and possess strength. I believe that even when they are suffering, they have answers within themselves. They may require some specific and kind support to discover what their own answers are, and to take charge of trying out the small changes that will lead them to feeling healthy again.

I have an eclectic style, as you might expect from someone who has practiced for a long time.  I may use mindfulness-based practice; cognitive behavioural strategies; and solution-focused thinking. For children, some of my work might be play-based. Above all, I will be a person who will treat you with kindness, honesty and respect, and the therapeutic relationship we build together will be instrumental in helping you progress.

You, or your child, might choose to see me for help with:

  • stress
  • “burnout”
  • anxiety and worry
  • sadness
  • chronic pain and/or illness
  • life transitions
  • parenting
  • loss
  • sleep difficulties

As a solo practitioner, it is important that I have a professional network to use to reflect on my practice.  I meet with these colleagues on a regular basis. Your case may be discussed, with all identifying details removed, to help build the most effective approach for your particular needs. All discussions are confidential.
